Carl Byers, Chief Strategy Officer

I’m excited to say that, after months in the making, today marks the official launch of the AREA – the Augmented Reality for Enterprise Alliance.

The AREA’s mission is to help organizations achieve greater operational efficiencies through smooth introduction and widespread adoption of interoperable AR-enabled enterprise systems. Reflecting NGRAIN’s commitment and dedication to this market, we are a Founding Sponsor Member of the AREA together with 1066 Labs, APX Labs, Atheer Labs, Augmate, The Boeing Company, Bosch, CN2 Technology, DAQRI, Design Mill, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), IEEE Standards Association, iQagent, Newport News Shipbuilding, Perey Research & Consulting and Talent Swarm.

As the elected President of the AREA, I welcome the opportunity to work with these other thought leaders to build momentum around the specific needs of AR in the enterprise – whether that be system robustness, data security, display safety, information integration, or interoperability.

There are many emerging examples of how AR can increase the productivity and effectiveness of front-line workers on the factory floor and in the field; indeed, NGRAIN is conducting trail-blazing work in many of these initiatives within the aerospace, defence, energy, and other markets. However, creating the conditions to build an AR ecosystem and knowledge sharing environment will significantly advance the successful use and penetration of AR across and within all companies. The AREA has been established to be that catalyst.

I look forward to working with the other current and future members of the AREA to unlock the full potential of augmented reality across the enterprise.
