U.S. Army Transportation School to include NGRAIN training aid for diesel engine course

Addition of interactive 3D training aid will increase student throughput and knowledge retention

VANCOUVER, BC - Jun. 12, 2006 - NGRAIN, provider of interactive 3D training solutions, today announced that the U.S. Army Transportation School in Fort Eustis, Virginia, has selected NGRAIN to provide an interactive 3D training aid to support the Detroit Diesel 12V71 engine course. The NGRAIN solution will provide the school with the ability to effectively train students at the Transportation School and potentially other locations around the country.

The U.S. Army Transportation School develops Army Transportation Corps Maritime leaders and maintainers, supports training in units, develops deployment and movement doctrines, establishes applicable standards, and builds future Army transportation maritime capability. The school has chosen to integrate an NGRAIN 3D training aid to its diesel engine course to enable students to become familiar with the engine's parts and functionalities through hands-on interaction with a virtual model. This means the school is able to enhance existing training and significantly improve the students' base knowledge of the 12V71 engine prior to physically working on it. This ability makes it significantly easier for the students to learn concepts in a shorter amount of time, allowing students to leave with increased capabilities on the engine. Additionally, the product provides the capability to reach many of the geographically dispersed maritime students by allowing instructors to take their course material with them on a CD wherever they go.

The innovative 3D material will enable the school to enhance student performance through improved knowledge retention as it allows the instructors to engage students in the learning process before they work on the actual system. With the NGRAIN solution, students are able to freely interact with the training material by rotating, moving, disassembling, assembling, cross-sectioning, and zooming in on various engine parts.

"Today's young soldiers are much more computer-oriented. These students would prefer an interactive 3D simulation of a marine diesel engine to passively watching a traditional slide presentation. The NGRAIN solution not only captures their attention better but allows them to retain more knowledge," said Joe Thornton, Chief, Maritime Terminal Department, at the U.S. Army Transportation School.

The NGRAIN training aid for the diesel engine includes interactive 3D animations showing assembly, disassembly and maintenance procedures, and parts information that will help students understand complex concepts and review the properties for each part of the engine. The NGRAIN solution also allows students to explore at their own pace, review procedures, and receive immediate feedback.

"In any training it's important to actively engage the student in the learning process as it helps them internalize more of the information they've been presented, so we're thrilled to help the U.S Army Transportation School revamp their training in this way. Improved knowledge retention through interactive training methods will ultimately increase the chances of success when performing these tasks in the field," said Joseph Bailey, Vice President, Sales at NGRAIN. "The school is now free to offer this training to more students because the instructors don't have to only depend on access to large training model engines. Students who aren't able to travel to Fort Eustis can effectively learn about the engine's complexities and fully participate in the course."
